The doula is a professional, non-clinical labor companion, whose role is to provide physical and emotional support, direct comfort measures, education, and to act as a liaison between clinical staff and family before, during, and after childbirth. Unlike doctors and midwives, doulas provide hands on continuity of care.
Our 2-day training course, developed by midwife and educator Susanrachel Condon, is designed to give you the knowledge and targeted hands-on skills to support clients throughout labor and childbirth. The course includes an in-depth exploration of the physiology of labor, birth, and postpartum changes, including complications and appropriate medical interventions. You will learn about identifying behavioral and emotional signs of the stages of labor, comfort measures, position changes, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, and massage techniques including pressure points to facilitate relaxation and labor progress. You will build a vocabulary so you can communicate effectively with clinical staff in a variety of settings and advocate for your clients
Our mission is to provide trainees with knowledge and targeted hands-on techniques. The course also includes information about self-care, and the legal and business aspects of this unique career to help you set up a successful practice.
There are no prerequisites to sign up for the professional doula training course. Knowledge of massage techniques a plus.
Being a doula is one of the most rewarding and challenging careers there is, where you have the responsibility and opportunity to help improve birth outcomes, support indiviuals and families, and to know that you have touched the lives of new parents in a way that possibly no one else has.
